EKAL VIDYALAYA ( Single Teacher Schools )
As part of the EKAL VIDYALAYA MOVEMENT Seva Bharathi in the Western Andhra Pradesh has already reached 200 Tribal Hamlets the remotest of the remotest and started 151 Single Teacher Schools. A number equalent to 4,020 kids in 8 Districts of the far off hamlets and villages are tasting the childhood. As many as 91 Teachers the First generation literates in the hamlet/ Village is the proud leader of the success Spearheading development.

The Kids are either School drop outs and / or Child labourers. Every year an additional 200 children come to sevabharathi run EKAL VIDYALAYAS to taste the fragnance of the schooling.

Special Features:

The Local Youth a the first generation LITERATES are Trained to teach their own people. Thousands of Dropouts and Illiterates have been Enrolled and Taught. The Efforts of SEVABHARATI are to bridge the continuation of their education into the Govt. Schools . A Specially Prepared Curriculum to teach them in the Tribals Own Language is In Place. Subjects Like Mathematics and Social Sciences have been Developed to suit the local conditions. A no. Of Personality Development Programs and Other Techniques to Preserve the Tribal ART & Culture Are Taught. Training Camps for the Teachers are Conducted Once in a Month. The Single Teacher School is the Nucleus for all the Rural Development Activities in the village.

Establishing and running an Ekal Vidyalay needs Rs.10,000/- (per one SINGLE TEACHER SCHOOL per annum.)

151 single Teacher Schools Located in interior tribal and most backward areas where literacy is at a very low level. Adoption of schools by donors is a special feature of this project. This is an important step in bringing literacy essentially to the neglected children.

Features
1.
The sole teacher being a youth from the village itself selected by the villagers.
2.
Children who cannot go to any school because of housework etc. are taught for three hours everyday at a time convenient to them.
3.
Children learn functional literacy and numeric, measurements, moral-cultural-patriotic values and general knowledge including science.
4.
A 3-year curriculum of basic education designed specially for them is followed.
5.
Methods and materials developed in this programme are now being used in the nationwide Ekal Vidyalaya (One Teacher School) movement.
