Seva Bharathi Telangana is based on the concept of “Sevā paramo dharmaḥ”- Service is the highest duty. This belief has driven our journey, changing over 25 lakh lives and transforming despair into hope, helplessness into strength.
Recently, in an interview Dr. Sumalatha, our Vice President (Seva Bharathi Telangana), shared that Seva is a lifelong commitment to serve humanity, igniting sparks of change that ripple through every village, home, and heart.
How Seva Bharathi Telangana Began
The inception of our story happened in 1989 as a small number of us witnessed the silent struggles occurring around us and decided to see where we could help. The major turning point came in 2004 with the launch of the “Kishori Vikas Kendra.” We uncovered a heartbreaking reality that child marriage still takes place in some villages in Telangana due to poverty, ignorance, and a lack of support.
Our approach was simple yet revolutionary. We started with educating a single girl, enabled a trusted community member to lead that change, and slowly worked at building awareness and trust among families. From that one seed, a network of volunteers blossomed; students, teachers, doctors, professionals, all united by a shared purpose. Our volunteers taught girls not only to read and write but to dream, to believe, to stand tall. We provided skills and opportunities so these young women could earn a livelihood and rewrite their stories.
Additionally, to create awareness of Girl Child empowerment we organize “Run for Girl Child” an annual Awareness and Fund-Raising event for Kishori Vikas Program. The event is growing each year in participation and raising funds to help girls at risk of early marriage, unable to access education or healthcare, living in disadvantaged communities in Telangana.
From changing the lives of a handful of girls soon spread to many villages, lighting the path for countless others.
Seva Bharathi Telangana’s Holistic Education
Seva Bharathi’s vision is holistic. Education for these girls is not only limited to the textbook but also about culture, values, and dignity/respect. To support girls, we launched After-school programs to focus on character building and provide extra tuition to help them excel.
The boys in the community are also being taken care of through various “Awasams – Shelter Homes.” Many children who came came from single-parent families, those rescued from child labor or abandoned, were offered a haven, education, and physical development through sports, giving them a chance to thrive.
Impact that speaks volumes
The impact is nothing short of inspiring. These children have now grown to be doctors, teachers, police officers, army personnel, and skilled professionals. Many families express their gratitude with tears, as they thought their children would never achieve their dreams. Entire communities are changing and are inviting our volunteers to bring hope and transformation.
We are also providing training to women who aim to be self-reliant and earn for their families. The training at Seva Bharathi’s skill development centers helps them not only earn but empower others, creating waves of self-reliance and generosity that uplift whole communities.
Our Seva extends beyond this. We also provide help to communities hit by natural calamities. As part of this initiative, we have gathered help for people of Uttarkashi. Our volunteers are working relentlessly by providing the affected families with clothing, food, and other financial assistance.

Seva Bharathi is more than an NGO; it’s a family born from love and dedication and sharing the dream of creating a better world. Volunteers, doctors, lawyers, teachers, government officers gift their time, energy, and passion to give back to humanity.
